Owl Man

Owl Man lives at the end of the road

His name is Mr. Dark-in-the-Trees

His beak is smooth obsidian

A soft short curve

His claws of yellowed ivory

Know the plan of the hunt

His eyes are two spinning wheels

Hypnotize with a turn of his head

Prick like thousands of needles

His feathers steel—thunder as he shakes

them—his voice a lighting bolt

If he sees you, he’ll freeze you

So you snap like a spring icicle

So I stay away from the road’s end

And I run home as quickly as I can

The echo of his voice

Frost-jabbing at my heels
